THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball fell to No. 18 Georgia, 8-0 (6), on Tuesday night at Mewborn Field.
The Yellow Jackets (8-8) were led by senior utility player Emma Kauf at the plate as she went 2-for-3. Two more for the White and Gold batted .500 at 1-for-2 in the contest in sophomore outfielders Madison Dobbins and Auburn Dupree.
Senior hurler Chandler Dennis saw the bulk of the action in the circle with three strikeouts in four innings pitched, while fellow senior right hander Blake Neleman (2-3) received the loss.
After a scoreless first, the Bulldogs (13-4) jumped ahead by five in the top of the second using a pair of two-RBI doubles and a groundout that plated another run. A quiet third ensued, but Georgia pushed further in front in the top of the fourth, scoring two more by way of a wild pitch and another RBI groundout for a 7-0 lead. Neither side made any noise at the dish in the fifth, but the Bulldogs knocked a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth for what proved to be the final run, closing out the bottom of the frame to conclude an 8-0 (6) win.
Georgia Tech will be a host site for the I-75 Tournament, its final tournament of nonconference play. The White and Gold will open the weekend with a doubleheader against UNI on Friday starting at 2 p.m. at Mewborn Field. The games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
