CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
Nigel Orr placed second in the men’s long jump to help the Georgia Tech men’s track & field team to a tie for fourth place on the second day of the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Eddie Smith Field House/Belk Track on the University of North Carolina campus.
To open the day, Orr placed second in the men’s long jump with an NCAA Championship provisional qualifying and personal-best mark of 24 feet. 8 ¼ inches. Senior James Lemons landed in fourth place with a mark of 24 feet, 1 inch. Following in fifth place was sophomore Alphonso Jordan with a mark of 23 feet, 11 inches.
The men’s distance medley relay team featuring E.C. Gibbs, Mario Johnson, Billy Mateker and David Herren placed third with a time of 9:52.83.
In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, junior Dave Ford placed fifth and Jordan placed eighth to qualify for tomorrow’s finals beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Senior Derek Hoye finished third in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.52. Hoye will compete in the finals tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
The championship meet will resume Saturday with the men’s high jump at 11:30 a.m. Fans can follow a full day of action via live stats provided by flash results. Friday’s events will also be available to view on ACC Select.
