ATLANTA – Fresh of the NFCA Leadoff Classic Tournament title, the Georgia Tech softball team (12-2) will take on Oakland University (2-2) on Tuesday for a non-conference single game. Game time is set for 3 p.m. and all games at Glenn Field are free admission. The Yellow Jackets can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.
The Rambling Wreck defeated two top 25 teams last weekend, taking down No. 16 Baylor, 10-7, and No. 24 Massachusetts, 3-0. The Jackets also defeated teams just outside of the top 25 in DePaul, 8-3, and Tennessee Tech, 4-2.
Sophomore Tiffany Johnson and senior Caitlin Lever led the Yellow Jackets to the co-championship, along with No. 13 Michigan. Johnson, a native of Atlanta, went 3-0 in the circle, holding a 0.73 earned run average and tallying 30 strikeouts and four walks. Lever, a native of Amherst, N.Y., hit over .500 for the weekend, with six runs batted in and two home runs. She was named to the All-Tournament team, along with junior catcher Savannah Brown.
The Golden Grizzlies opened their 2007 season at the Mercer Invitational last weekend. OU made it to the championship game on Sunday against George Washington, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Tech holds a 2-1 advantage against Oakland in the all-time series. The Jackets are hitting .339 for the season, scoring 7.57 runs per game and smashing 21 home runs, tops in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Yellow Jackets will host Chattanooga on Wednesday, Feb. 28, for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
