ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team returns to Atlanta for the first of three-straight ACC home games Sunday when it hosts the Clemson Tigers at 3 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The game was originally scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. but was pushed back to 3 p.m. when CSS chose to televise the contest.
The Jackets can be heard on the Georgia Tech ISP Radio Network (91.1 WREK-FM in Atlanta) and online at www.wrek.org, with Richard Musterer calling the play-by-play and Kurt Hoyt providing the color analysis. Livestats for all Georgia Tech games can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com.
Tech enters the contest with a 12-7 record after falling by eight points to the sixth-ranked Maryland Terrapins Thursday night in College Park. Georgia Tech is 1-5 in ACC play this season.
Clemson has an 8-12 record on the season and will be looking for its first win in three games after dropping back-to-back contests to Florida State and No. 2/1 Duke. The Tigers are 2-4 against conference opponents in 2005-06.
Sunday’s game will be the 45th meeting between the two schools, as the Tigers lead the series, 41-13, with the last meeting coming on January 8, 2006 in Clemson.
In that game, Clemson went on a 22-6 run to begin the game, and extended its lead to 23 points with just over 10 minutes remaining to earn its first conference win of the season, a 72-63 victory at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Jackets’ first win in the series came in Clemson on January 22, 1987, 81-78, and their last win was in the first game between the two teams a year ago, 53-48, in Atlanta. The Tigers have won the last two games, and the last three games between the schools have been decided by less than 10 points.
Following Sunday’s game against the Tigers, the Jackets will continue their homestand with Florida State and North Carolina in the coming week.
