Jackets Host Boston College for ACC Softball Series

April 13, 2006

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (36-14, 7-5 ACC) will host Boston College (15-17, 2-10 ACC) for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series on Saturday and Sunday, April 15-16, at Glenn Field. The Yellow Jackets and Eagles will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tech swept Furman on Wednesday, 6-5 (9) and 11-3 (6). Freshman Whitney Haller blasted two home runs and continues to re-write the ACC record book with 19. She has driven in 59 runs this year, four shy of breaking the league record for a single season.

The Jackets have won three straight heading into the weekend and have never tasted defeat against the Eagles, holding a 3-0 advantage in the overall series. This will be the first meeting in ACC action between Tech and BC.

In the circle, junior Sarah Wood (14-6) won both games against the Lady Paladins on Wednesday. Wood has 73 strikeouts in 103.2 innings pitched and a 3.24 earned run average.

Senior Christine Sheridan finished the doubleheader 6-for-7, with two doubles, three runs batted in and three walks. Sheridan is hitting .344 on the season with 36 RBIs.

Senior Amy Hosier continues to lead the ACC with a .503 on base percentage. Hosier ranks second on Tech squad with a .372 batting average and has driven in a career-high 40 runs this season and hit a career-high six home runs.

The Yellow Jackets will host in-state foe Georgia State on Wednesday, April 19, for a non-conference doubleheader. The games will start at 2 p.m.
