THE FLATS โย Georgia Tech softball (15-3, 0-1 ACC) dropped to No. 13 Duke (14-3, 1-0 ACC) in five innings, 9-1, on Friday night at Mewborn Field. Sophomore third baseman Mallorie Black led the way at the dish for the Jackets, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
The Jackets got on the board first, opening the game with back-to-back walks to set up an RBI single by Black.
After a couple of quiet innings, the Blue Devils rallied back, cranking a grand slam in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Duke furthered its momentum into the following frame, adding five more scores out to a 9-1 advantage. A pair of singles drove in three, and a two-run home run gave the Blue Devils enough to close things out as the Jackets fell 9-1 in five innings.
Game Notes
- Awald has still reached base in every game this season after drawing a walk against the Blue Devils.
- The top four in the order for the Yellow Jackets all posted a .500 on-base percentage.
