MIAMI – Tamara James scored 37 points as Miami (16-11, 6-8 ACC) earned a 90-85 victory in double-overtime against the Yellow Jackets (13-14, 2-12 ACC) Sunday afternoon at the BankUnited Center in Miami, Florida.
James hit a three-pointer with 3.7 seconds left in the first overtime to force a second extra period, and then made 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in the final five minutes, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Jill Ingram led five Yellow Jackets in double-figures, as the sophomore point guard went 9-for-13 from the field in 48 minutes of play, while also pulling down seven rebounds and recording three assists and three steals in the game.
The loss to the Hurricanes marked the first double-overtime loss in Georgia Tech’s history. The last double-overtime game for the Yellow Jackets occurred against NC State in 2003.

The Yellow Jackets pulled down over twice the number of rebounds as the Hurricanes, 51-25, but turned the ball over eight more times than the home team, 28-20.
After being held to just a pair of free-throws in the first half, Chioma Nnamaka went 3-for-4 from the field in the second half and scored 10 points against Miami, while Stephanie Higgs had 14 points, five rebounds, six steals and four assists in the ballgame.
Tamara James scored 17 first-half points, helping the Hurricanes to a 41-35 lead going into the locker room at the half. The senior was 6-for-9 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line in the frame. The Jackets were led by Mitchell and Jessica Williams, who had nine and eight points, respectively.
Renee Taylor added 22 points for Miami while Melissa Knight joined James and Taylor in double-figures with 14.
