Jackets Fall 6-5 to NC State

Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – No. 12 Georgia Tech baseball battled in a neck-and-neck affair with NC State, but three errors that ultimately led to four unearned runs proved too much to overcome in the 6-5 loss on Saturday at Doak Field.

The Yellow Jackets (16-8, 4-4 ACC) once again jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run single from Colin Hall, but an error on a double play ball in the fourth led to four runs for the Wolfpack (14-8, 3-4 ACC) and Tech fought from behind the rest of the game.

At the plate, Tech had four multi-hit performances, led by Hall who finished with three RBI on two hits. Tres Gonazlez, Andrew Jenkins and Stephen Reid all finished with two hits with Gonzalez and Jenkins driving in a run.

On the mound, Georgia Tech used three pitchers to the tune of two earned runs on the day. LHP Cody Carwile (2-1) in his first career start, went four innings and surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. RHP Logan McGuire then came in to scatter three hits across two innings while punching out three, before RHP Dawson Brown closed two innings of no-hit work, allowing just one unearned run that reached on an error.

NC State was led by Payton Green, who hit a three-run home run. On the mound, RHP Carson Kelly got the win, allowing just one run on two hits in 2.2 innings. LHP Chris Villaman got the save.

The Yellow Jackets will conclude the series against NC State on Sunday, March 27. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
