CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – With wind gusts approaching 35 miles-per-hour, Georgia Tech baseball fell in a wild one that featured seven home run and a plethora of bloop singles, dropping the 24-12 decision to No. 13/14 Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Harrington Athletics Village.
Without two of its weekend starters entering the weekend due to injury, the short-handed Yellow Jackets (17-11, 6-6 ACC) turned to LHP Cody Carwile, who went 2.2 inning and had seven hits score five runs. But with Tech still in the game, it then turned to RHP Jackson Vaughan, LHP Joseph Mannelly and RHP Ben King who continued to pitch well with 3.1 innings of three-hit, scoreless baseball to keep Tech in it.
Angelo Dispigna started off the hitting for Tech, hitting a three-run homer in the first before John Giesler launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth to make it a 5-4 deficit. Jake DeLeo then hit a three-run homer, followed by a double RBI by Stephen Reid and groundout RBI by Dispigna in the eighth that pulled the Jackets within three.
Unfortunately, the 13th-ranked Eagles (20-6, 8-4 ACC) were able to catch fire late offensively, scoring seven in the seventh and 12 in the eighth to keep the game out of reach.
Tech used six pitchers after the sixth inning, getting work from RHP Demitri Diamant, LHP Noah Samol, LHP Dalton Smith, LHP Josiah Siegel, RHP Drew Byers and LHP Logan Bogue.
Overall, Tech was led by Kristian Campbell, Stephen Reid and John Giesler, who all finished with three hits. Giesler finished with two solo home runs, while Dispigna and DeLeo both recorded four RBI.
Boston College was led by Patrick Roche, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. RHP Eric Schroeder (4-1) got the win, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts.
Georgia Tech returns home for four-games in five days as it hosts Georgia Southern on Tuesday, April 4. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
