PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Tech softball team (1-5) blasted five home runs and two doubles en route to an 8-3 victory at Georgia State (4-2) on Wednesday evening at Heck Softball Complex. It marks the second game of the young season in which Georgia Tech has hit at least three home runs.

“I thought overall the team played well,” head coach Shelly Hoerner said. “We were prepared. We are hitting the ball much better than we ever have. We are believing in the process of what coach DeLong is talking about and working us through. I think we saw the ball really well today, especially seeing four different pitchers.”
How It Happened
Senior Samantha Pierannunzi started the game with solo shot to dead center to put the Jackets on the board and spark the Tech offense.
In the top of the second, Rebecca Prairie led off with a double to center. She scored thanks to a home run crushed to left center by Kelsey Chisholm, which put the Jackets up 3-0.
In the third inning, Jessica Kowalewicz led off with a single through the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Draven Sonnon. She got to third on a Prairie groundout and scored thanks to a double off the bat of Crosby Huckabay.
Malea Bell’s first home run of the season to right center in the fourth inning gave the Jackets a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers didn’t get their first hit until the fourth inning and scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
After not scoring in the fifth inning, Tech recovered with a three-run sixth inning highlighted by a solo home run from Pierannunzi and a two-run shot courtesy of Kowalewicz to give the Jackets an 8-3 advantage.
Jenna Goodrich (1-1) earned the win after scattering six hits and allowing three runs in a complete-game effort.
Georgia State used four pitchers in the loss and starter Emily Soles (2-1) was pinned with the loss after throwing 1.1 innings with three runs on four hits.
