THE FLATS – Head softball coach Shelly Hoerner will be inducted into the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports’ (NYSSCOGS) Softball Hall of Fame as announced by the organization president, Perry Novak. The sixth annual Induction Ceremony is scheduled for June 17, 2017 at the Mudville Softball Complex in Herkimer, N.Y.
Hoerner played high school softball at North Tonawanda High School as a catcher. She is one of 12 total inductees and one of two players from Section 6.
While Hoerner was at North Tonawanda, the team won one state title and posted an overall record of 119-35 during her career. She threw out 53 runners and was named all-state three times.
She was the first seventh grader in her school to play varsity softball and started all six years. She was named Outstanding Player of the Year in Western New York and was a three-time selection to the all-Western New York team.
A well-rounded athlete, she also competed in soccer, basketball and track for North Tonawanda, earning All-Niagara Frontier League honors in soccer and basketball and qualifying for Sectionals in the long jump.
