THE FLATS – Leading 2-0 in the match, the Georgia Tech volleyball team (14-8, 5-5 ACC) overcame an eight-point deficit in game three to complete the sweep of the NC State Wolfpack (13-9, 2-8) Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened
The first set was a back and forth battle with 13 tied scores. It was anyone’s game with the scored knotted 23-23, but Georgia Tech scored the final two points on an NC State attacking error and kill by Sydney Wilson to capture the set, 25-23.
Tied 12-12 in game two, the Yellow Jackets went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-12 lead. Georgia Tech never looked back and defeated the Wolfpack, 25-18.
In game three, it was NC State’s turn to jump out to a 10-2 lead. The Yellow Jackets didn’t quit and worked back to take a 22-21 lead capped off by a block from Teegan Van Gunst and Sydney Wilson. Georgia Tech held on and won the game, 25-22, to complete the sweep.
Quote
“I think we just had to settle in a little bit with our serve receive,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We got a couple good strings of serves and after that, once we finally sided out and got out of that rotation, we were able to take a break a little bit.
“Then [we got] some great plays defensively. I mean the effort was great tonight. They made some fun saves and they went after it. I’m very proud of the way that they didn’t stop playing [and] didn’t let anything phase them. They kept going after it and they know what type of team we are. They know that we can come back from those things. It’s great to see their confidence and their resiliency, and being able to come back and win that match.”
