GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Georgia Tech men’s swimmers completed their third day of competition at the ACC Men’s Swimming Championships, and a school record fell on Friday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
After Day 3 of the ACC Championships, the Georgia Tech men are in sixth place with 465 points.
“I thought we had a really good night,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “We moved up in points with tonight’s efforts, and Rodrigo Correia broke the 100 back school record on two occasions. We’re excited about competing tomorrow, and we look forward to coming out and swimming fast.”
Friday was highlighted by the efforts of freshman Rodrigo Correia, who now holds the school’s 100 back record. The mid-year enrollee originally broke the record with a time of 47.28 in the prelims, which put him in Friday night’s B final. Correia went on to finish second in the B final with a time of 47.48. Later, Correia would set the record a second time when he swam the 100 back in 47.13 seconds during the first leg of the 400 IM, an event in which the Jackets finished sixth.
Colt Williamson also qualified for a finals race on Friday, swimming a time of 3:53.99 in the 400 IM prelims. In the C final, Williamson finished seventh with a time of 3:56.21.
In the 100 fly, the Jackets had three athletes qualify for finals races, including Youssef Hammoud, who finished third in the prelims with a personal best of 46.62. Brad Oberg also posted a personal best (47.89) to qualify for the B final, and Ben Southern qualified for the C final with a time of 48.05. Southern finished third in the C final (47.97), Oberg broke his personal best and finished eighth in the B final (47.88), and Youssef Hammoud finished fourth in the A final with a time of 46.78.
Noah Harasz stood out for the Jackets in the 200 free, qualifying for the C final with a time of 1:37.70. He would go on to finish fifth in the C final with a time of 1:37.84.
In the 100 breast, Alex Kimpel and Ricky Lehner finished second and third in the B final with times of 53.76 and 54.08, respectively. Kimpel’s time was a personal best.
In the final event of the night, the quartet of Correia, Moises Loschi, Hammoud and Harasz finished sixth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:10.20.
96 of Tech’s 465 points have come from the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions, which took place last week. The platform diving scores will not count for the team point total until after Saturday, but Tech would be in fifth place with 518 points if they counted today. Brad Homza made the finals in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives and took home gold in the platform dive, while Matt Casillas, Omar Eteiba and Nolan Mallet also scored points for the Jackets in diving last week.

For the second time in program history, Georgia Tech and the McAuley Aquatic Center will serve as the host site for the 2016 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The Women’s Championships will be held March 16-19, followed by the Men’s Championships March 23-26. Georgia Tech previously hosted the 2006 NCAA Championships and the CRC was also the site of the 1996 Summer Olympics swimming and diving competitions.
