THE BASICS:
· Grant Wruble drove in two early runs to give Georgia Tech a 2-0 lead and the Yellow Jackets held off Georgia State, 6-3, Wednesday night at the GSU Baseball Complex.
· Ben Parr allowed just a run over his 5.2 innings on the mound and picked up his fourth win, while Zac Ryan recorded the final five outs to nail down his fifth save.
· Tech improved to 19-10 overall and to 5-0 versus in-state opponents, while the Panthers fell to 17-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· Wruble’s first two RBI of the season – one coming in the second and another in the fourth – allowed the Yellow Jackets to grab an early 2-0 lead.
· Sam Few’s RBI double off the wall in left cut the deficit in half in the fourth, but a 4-6-3 double play allowed the Jackets to preserve the lead.
· Tech went back to work in the fifth with an RBI single from Matt Gonzalez and an RBI grounder from Thomas Smith to give for a 4-1 lead.
· Georgia State got two more back in the seventh, but consecutive two-out RBI singles from Daniel Spingola and Keenan Innis in the eighth tacked on two key insurance runs for the Jackets to make it 6-3.
· The hosts threatened again in the eighth by bringing the tying run to plate with one out, but Ryan entered and made a leaping grab on a high-chopper to trigger a 1-6-3 inning-ending double play.
· Ryan worked around a lead-off walk in the ninth and closed it out.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
· Spingola’s single in the sixth extended his reached-base streak to 20 games and he finished 2-for-5 with an RBI.
· Gonzalez, who in last night’s win at Georgia was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, stayed hot by going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run.
· Parr registered his longest outing of the season by tossing 5.2 innings and scattering six hits with one run, one walk and two strikeouts to improve to 4-1.
· Parr retired six of the last seven he faced, including that key double to end the fourth.
· Parr improved to 3-0 in his career versus Georgia State.
· Smith and Innis also had two-hit nights for the Jackets, who pounded out 11 as a team.
· Patrick Wiseman and Jared Datoc bridged the gap between Parr and Ryan.
· Tech plated two more eight-inning runs and is now out-scoring the opposition 50-12 over the final two innings, plus extra innings.

QUOTEABLE:
“No doubt it was a good win, but I felt like this was a bit of a trap game for us coming off the win at Georgia and playing a four-hour game last night. But I thought we played really well tonight. Ben Parr was excellent, we played really good defense again and got some timely hits. Very proud of the way be bounced back after Louisville, and then to throw on top of it, a bunch of guys had exams this week. So it’s been a tough week – a Georgia Tech week. And now we head back on the road for a key ACC series.”
— Head Coach Danny Hall

UP NEXT: The Yellow Jackets bring an eight-game road trip to a close this weekend with an ACC series at Coastal Division rival Virginia Tech. Friday’s game is set for 5:30 p.m. at English Field in Blacksburg.
