THE FLATS – Junior Natasha Prokhnevska and freshman Johnnise Renaud of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team were eliminated from the main singles draw during the quarterfinal round of the ITA Southeast Regional on Sunday morning.

Prokhnevska, the number 15 seed, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the main singles draw after facing the number seven seed, Peggy Porter of Florida. Porter won in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Renaud, the number eight seed, faced the number one seed and sixth-ranked player in the country, Lauren Herring of Georgia in the quarterfinals of the main singles draw. Renaud defeated Herring, 6-4, in the first set before falling, 7-5, in set two. Herring took set three by a score of 6-4.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets recorded 11 singles and two doubles wins during the ITA Southeast Regionals this weekend that are being held at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. Prokhnevska and Renaud advanced to the main singles draw quarterfinals while freshman Paige Hourigan and sophomore Rasheeda McAdoo both made it to the main singles draw round of 16.

Freshman Alexis Prokopuik advanced to the round of 16 in the singles consolation draw after being eliminated from the main singles draw. Sophomore Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer also competed in the consolation draw after losing in the main draw. Freshman Vooha Vellanki played in the B singles draw.  

Next up, the Yellow Jackets travel to Alabama to compete in the Crimson Tide Invitational from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
