@GT_trackNfield Set for ACC Indoor Championships

Feb. 24, 2016

BOSTON – The Georgia Tech track & field team will be competing at this weekend’s ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place Feb. 25-27 at the Reggie Lewis Center.

“We could not be more excited to be competing in this weekend’s ACC Championships,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “As it always is, this will be a great challenge and opportunity for our team. We will all need to be ready to compete at a high level, and I believe we are.”

On the men’s side, Jeremy Greenwald will be one of the participants to watch. The Chesapeake, Va., senior set the school record in the 3000m at the Vanderbilt Commodore Invite with a time of 8:03.13. The performance earned him ACC Men’s Track Co-Performer of the Week honors. Additionally, Greenwald finished fifth in the mile event at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., recording a personal best in the event with a time of 4:01.85.

Spencer Allen, a hurdler from Ina, Ill., has finished in the top five of the 60m hurdles at each meet this season. He set a personal-best in the event with a time of 7.89 at the Vanderbilt Invitational.

Andres Littig, a junior from Suwanee, Ga., has consistently performed well in distance events this season. He finished third in the 800m with a time of 1:50.13 at the Vanderbilt Invitational and won the DMR at the same meet with Nico Metzler, AZ Reese and Chris Burnett.

Last weekend, the DMR quartet of Avery Bartlett, Reese, Littig and Greenwald set a new school record with a time of 9:34.38 at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.

On the women’s side, Bria Matthews is a name that has stood out this year. The freshman from Morrow, Ga., has made an immediate impact at Georgia Tech. She set the school record in the long jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a jump of 6.40/21′ 0″, and sits fifth nationally in the triple jump after a leap of 13.33/43′ 9″ at the Conference Clash. The latter earned her ACC Women’s Field Co-Performer of the Week honors.

Kenya Collins, a junior from Jonesboro, Ga., finished fourth and set a new personal-best in the 60m hurdles at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a time of 8.32. She also finished fourth in the event at the Vanderbilt Commodore Invite, as well as sixth at the VT Elite Meet. She most recently finished first at the Music City Challenge in the event with a time of 8.34.

Bailey Weiland, a sophomore from Atlanta, has excelled in the high jump this season. She recently finished third while posting a season high of 1.73/5′ 8″ in a crowded field at the VT Elite meet.

“We’re excited about the opportunity the women have this weekend to line up in Boston and compete at the conference meet,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “The season has progressed well, the women have competed hard and have made great progress. But we’ve yet to put together everyone’s best effort at the same meet, and that’s our expectation for this weekend. Our mantra has beenthat every performance matters, and in Boston we want the best performance possible from every individual.”

Live results for the meet can be followed at http://theacc.co/ITFliveresults. Thursday’s event can be watched on ESPN3.
