@GT_trackNfield Prepares for Yellow Jacket Invite

March 24, 2016

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track & field squad will have its home opener this weekend, as they host the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The meet will take place March 25-26 at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility.

“We’re excited about competing at home this weekend,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “With a great facility, outstanding competition, and a lot of support from friends and family, the women are ready to compete at a high level. We’re expecting quality performances across the board.”

Kenya Collins will be one to watch on the women’s side. The junior from Jonesboro, Ga., ran a career-best time last week at the Alabama Relays, finishing fourth with a time of 13.84 in the 100m hurdles.

Hurdling is also a strong event for the men, who are led by Spencer Allen. Allen finished third 110m hurdles last week at the Alabama Relays with a time of 14.08, which is currently 11th in the nation.

“We are really looking forward to this weekend’s Yellow Jacket Invitational – our first of two home meets for the 2016 outdoor season,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “It’s going to be a very competitive meet and a great opportunity for our team members. Plus, we love competing at the one and only Griffin Track.”

The Jackets will begin competition on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET with the 5000m. The Jackets will also have four distance runners (Melissa Fairey, Hayley Keadey, Matt Munns, Nahom Solomon) competing at the NC State Raleigh Relays this weekend. Live results from Atlanta (deltatiming.com) and Raleigh (http://bit.ly/1ZwKVUb) are available. The meet in Raleigh will also be available for viewing on ESPN3.
