GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech track & field team will participate in its third outdoor meet of the season March 31-April 2, as they will compete at the Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida.
The action will begin Thursday night with the men’s and women’s 5000m races featuring Alexandra Melehan, Mary Prouty, Christian Bowles, Mitchell Sanders and Tanner Shaw.
Bria Matthews, an ACC champion and All-American in the long jump and triple jump, will be back in action this weekend after taking the last weekend off. She’ll be competing in the triple jump on Saturday.
“The Florida Relays have been a major event during the outdoor season for decades, drawing schools from around the country,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “We’ve had some great success there over the years, and we look for that to continue this weekend. The women are preparing well each week, and we’re expecting some outstanding performances.”
On the men’s side, Freshman Avery Bartlett will look for another strong performance after winning the 1500m at the Yellow Jacket Invite last weekend.
“We are looking forward to our trip to Gainesville to compete in the Florida Relays,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “This is one of the larger groups we have taken in a few years. It is always a great meet and a great opportunity to compete at a high level against outstanding competition.”
