BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Georgia Tech track & field team will continue its 2016 season Friday as the Jackets begin the two-day Conference Clash/Power 5 Invitational hosted by Auburn and Tennessee.
Friday’s events will begin at 3 p.m. ET, while Saturday’s events will begin at 12 p.m. ET. Events for both days will be held at the Birmingham Crossplex.
“We are very excited to be a part of the first ever Conference Clash/Power 5 Invitational in Birmingham this weekend,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “The combination of a great facility and several outstanding track & field programs attending will make this the premier meet in the country for this weekend. We are looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity.”
Someone to keep an eye on at this weekend’s meet is William Solomon, who finished third in the long jump at last weekend’s Vanderbilt Commodore Classic.
Jeremy Greenwald, who last week set an indoor school record in the men’s 3000m and was named ACC Men’s Co-Performer of the Week, will not compete in Birmingham.
On the women’s side, Kenya Collins and Bria Matthews are looking to continue their strong seasons after solid performances in Nashville. Collins finished fourth in the 60m hurdles, while the freshman Matthews finished fourth in the long jump.
“The women are excited about competing at the Auburn Conference Clash this weekend, which features schools from each of the Power 5 conferences and is scored in a unique way,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “After last week’s solid opener, we’re looking to build on that start and improve our performances.”
