GREENSBORO, N.C. – Avery Bartlett, Kenya Collins, Bria Matthews, Ryan Thomas and Carissa Tipler were named to the 2016 Indoor Track & Field All-ACC Academic Team on Wednesday by the league office.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Bartlett, a freshman majoring in computational media, was part of the DMR quartet that set the men’s indoor school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational. He went on to earn All-ACC honors in the 800m with a time of 1:50.62 and a fourth-place finish. Bartlett earned a GPA of 3.12 in his first semester at Georgia Tech.
Collins, a junior majoring in biology, had six top-10 finishes in the 60m hurdles and won the event at the Music City Challenge. She has a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while at Tech.
Matthews, a freshman majoring in computer engineering, was an ACC gold medalist and All-American in both the long jump and triple jump during the indoor season. She also set the school record in the long jump with a leap of 6.40m. Matthews had a GPA of 4.0 in her first semester on The Flats.
Thomas, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering, finished fourth in the triple jump at the Commodore Invitational, VT Elite Meet and ACC Championships. He earned a GPA of 3.73 in the fall semester.
Tipler, a junior majoring in business administration, finished seventh in the triple jump at the ACC Championships with a leap of 12.18m. She had a GPA of 3.23 during the fall semester.
