GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech track & field squad completed its third meet of the outdoor season on Saturday night, and it included many solid performances despite weather conditions that were less than ideal.
“I thought the guys fought through another day of rain pretty well again today,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “Ryan Thomas looked solid in the triple jump, and Zach Gunnz ran a really nice lead-off 200m in the sprint medley. If I had to pick someone that really stood out in this meet, it would be A.Z. Reese. He ran two very solid 400m races on Friday and came back today with another in the sprint medley.”
Thomas finished 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.03m (49-03.75), while the sprint medley quartet of Gunnz, Andreas Ward, Reese and Jag Gangemi finished 11th with a time of 3:27.52.
On the women’s side, the quartet of Domonique Hall, Marinice Bauman, Shannon Innis and Lindsey Wheeler and finished 11th in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:03.06 on Saturday.
“The women had a good weekend, the relays were solid and there were a number of personal bests individually,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “The long jump win by Donjhae Jones was certainly the highlight. But overall we looked a little tired and off, so it was good to see many of the women work through that and grind out some decent performances.”
Jones won the long jump event on Friday for the Jackets, reaching a mark of 6.17m (20-03.00). The Jackets will be back in action next week at the Tiger Track Classic, which will be hosted by Auburn and will take place April 8-9.
