THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track & field squad finished its first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invite on Friday, and there were many stellar performances.
“Our day went well,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We had some very solid performances. One that really stands out to me was Myles McDavid in the long jump. His last two jumps were PRs. He seems to be in a great groove over the last few weeks. Christian Bowles in the 5000m, Nahom Solomon and Matt Munns in the 1500m, and Miles Dayoub and Isaac Penman in the 300m Steeplechase all ran well and posted PRs. We’re looking forward to getting back after it tomorrow.”
McDavid finished 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 7.57m, while Christian Bowles finished third in the 5000m with a time of 14:37.92. Solomon (3:54.17) and Munns (3:54.60) finished seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 1500m, while Dayoub (9:26.30) and Penman (9:36.00) finished fourth and sixth in the 3000m Steeplechase.
On the women’s side Bria Matthews won the long jump event with a leap of 6.30m. Kenya Collins also finished fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.77.
Tech will continue competition at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the high jump at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Complex.
