NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia Tech track & field squad finished its first meet of 2016 at the Vanderbilt Commodore Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Vanderbilt Student Rec Center was the setting for the event, which saw school and personal bests broken.

Senior Jeremy Greenwald broke the indoor school record in the 3000m, recording a time of 8:03.13 and finishing third. Greenwald’s impressive performance was one of several over the weekend for the Jackets on the men’s side.

“This was a very solid opener for the men’s track & field team,” said head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale. “We had several good performances, but three team members really stood out. Jeremy Greenwald set a new indoor school record in the 3000m. He ran an outstanding race. Ryan Thomas was fourth in the triple jump with a new indoor personal best. And Zach Gunnz ran a personal best in the 60m. Again, I am very pleased but there is much work to do as we prepare for a big challenge in Birmingham next weekend.”

Head women’s coach Alan Drosky was impressed by his athletes, as well.

“It was an outstanding meet for the women,” Drosky said. “We expected impressive efforts from Kenya (Collins), Bria (Matthews) and Bailey (Weiland), and they didn’t disappoint. After them, I think Angelica Henderson really emerged today. And we had many personal bests to open the season. I’m impressed with how the women competed and we can build on this first meet.”
