TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech track & field squad completed the first day of the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Florida State University.

Julian Darden, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 52.99. He will compete in the finals of the event on Sunday.

“Tonight had its ups and downs,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “However, I was pleased and proud with Zach Gunnz effort in the 200m prelim. Coming off a hamstring issue is difficult. But, to miss the finals by one was tough. The highlight of the night was Julian Darden in the 400m IH prelim. He ran a 1.05-second PR to make the first ACC final of his career. I could not be more proud of him. Now it’s time to get ready for a big day tomorrow.” <> Gunnz recorded a time of 21.27 in the 200m preliminary, which was good for tenth in the event and just .04 off of a spot in the final.

Marinice Bauman had a good night on the women’s side, running a personal-best time of 1:00.84 and finishing 10th in the women’s 400m hurdles preliminary.

“We have some good personal bests and seasonal bests, but unfortunately we left some good scoring opportunities on the table,” Head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “We need to make the most of every opportunity, and today we did not. Tomorrow we have some important events and we need some good things to happen.”
