TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech track & field squad is set to compete in the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Florida State University.
“The ACC Championships are always exciting and we’re looking forward to the competition,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “We had some good momentum after the indoor championships, then ran into some injury and illness issues. I think we’re finally healthy and ready to go. We expect everyone to perform at the highest level of season.”
On the women’s side, Bria Matthews will be one to watch for the Jackets. She has three top-three finishes in the long jump during the outdoor season, as well as triple jump victories at the Georgia Tech Invite and Georgia Invite. Matthews was an ACC gold medalist and All-American in both the long jump and triple jump during the indoor season.
On the men’s side, freshman Avery Bartlett stands out. He won the 1500m at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a personal-best time of 3:50.51. He also finished ninth in the event at the Tiger Track Classic with a time of 3:55.18.
“We have fought through a couple of injuries over the last few weeks, but I believe we are ready for this weekend’s championship,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We’re excited about the challenge and look forward to getting it rolling on Friday.”
