Greene, Miller and Sallinger Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech standouts Tyler Greene, Kristi Miller and Jessica Sallinger were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, May 16, 2005.

Greene, a junior from Plantation, Fla., hit .625 (10-for-16) with two home runs, including a grand slam, and 10 RBI in four games versus Virginia Tech and Coastal Carolina, leading the Yellow Jackets to a three-game sweep of the Hokies. The shortstop posted a 1.063 slugging percentage, a .684 on base percentage, scored eight runs, was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts, and was perfect in 22 fielding chances. Greene went 8-for-12 (.667) with 10 RBI and seven runs scored in the Yellow Jackets’ three-game sweep of the Hokies. He went 2-for-4 with a home run in the series opener, went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs while playing only four innings in game two, and went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in the series finale. For the season, Greene is batting .362 with 11 home runs, 60 RBI and 28 stolen bases.

Miller, a freshman from Marysville, Mich., went 2-0 in singles and doubles at the Atlanta Regional, helping Tech advance to its first round of 16 appearance ever. She dropped just six total games in singles this week, defeating Winthrop’s Jenny Andrade, 6-2, 6-1, and Pepperdine’s 74th-ranked Caroline Raba, 6-2, 6-1. Miller teamed with Alison Silverio to down Winthrop’s Andrade/Ana Maria Simanca, 8-5, in the first round and then captured the doubles point for the Yellow Jackets against Pepperdine with an 8-3 win against Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes.

Sallinger, a senior from Kennesaw, Ga., led the Yellow Jackets to their second ACC Championship in four years. The senior posted a 3-0 record and did not allow a run en route to the title. During the tournament she broke the ACC record for career wins with 108 and moved into fourth on the NCAA career strikeout list with 1,378. For her efforts she was named the ACC Tournament MVP.
