THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech women’s basketball players Sasha Goodlett and Alex Montgomery are set to open the 2013 WNBA season as the league begins its 17th season tonight.
Goodlett, a 2012 Tech graduate, begins her second season with the Indiana Fever. Montgomery, who graduated in 2011, starts her third year with the New York Liberty. Montgomery became the first Yellow Jacket drafted in the first round when she was taken No. 10 by the Liberty in 2011 and Goodlett was the second when she was chosen No. 11 by Indiana in 2012.
The Fever open the season at 8 p.m. ET tonight at San Antonio with NBA TV while the Liberty are at Connecticut Saturday night at 7 p.m. Indiana makes its first trip to Atlanta for a noon game on Tuesday, June 25. New York visits Atlanta Friday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Last season, Goodlett helped the Fever win the WNBA title in four games over the Minnesota Lynx. Goodlett became the first former Yellow Jacket to win a WNBA title. The Liberty have made the playoffs in each of Montgomery’s first two seasons.
