Sept. 11, 2012

Once a week, RamblinWreck.com will introduce you to one of Georgia Tech’s seven women’s basketball freshmen as we get ready to tip-off the 2012-13 season Nov. 11 against Tennessee at McCamish Pavilion.

The 2012-13 Georgia Tech women’s basketball schedule can be found here.

Season tickets are only $65 and can be purchased here.

Nariah Taylor is a 6-5 center from North Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind. Taylor had originally signed with the Auburn Tigers, but when Nell Fortner resigned, Taylor was let out of her letter of intent and signed with the Yellow Jackets in the spring signing period.

In her final prep campaign, Taylor led North Central to the Indiana 4A state title in thrilling style. She scored 10 of her team’s final 12 points in regulation, including a rebound basket at the buzzer to force overtime. She added to the excitement by sinking two free throws with 0.8 seconds left in the first extra period for the win. She was named the Indianapolis Star’s 2012 Super Team Player of the Year and played in the Indiana-Kentucky All-Stars Game. Taylor also added 2012 first team senior all-state accolades from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and first-team all-state honors from the Associated Press.

Taylor was also a standout shot put thrower for North Central. She placed in the top five at the state track meet in the shot put as a sophomore, junior and senior.

Taylor has two siblings, a sister Stacia and a brother Justin. She began playing basketball in fifth grade when an AAU coach saw how tall she was and asked her to play. Taylor plans to major in management at Tech.
