Georgia Tech's Sasha Goodlett Selected No. 11 In WNBA Draft

April 16, 2012

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech senior center Sasha Goodlett was selected 11th overall by the Indiana Fever in the first round of the 2012 WNBA Draft held today at ESPN Headquarters in Bristol, Conn.

Goodlett is the seventh Georgia Tech player drafted and the fifth under head coach MaChelle Joseph. Goodlett becomes the second Yellow Jacket drafted in the first round of the WNBA Draft. Last season, Alex Montgomery was selected No. 10 overall by the New York Liberty.

“I am just really excited,” said Goodlett. “I am really looking forward to going in there and learning from veteran players like Tamika Catchings and actually coming into the system and learning and being part of the culture.”

Goodlett finished her career at Georgia Tech ranked in the top in school history in points scored (10th, 1,364), rebounds (9th, 760) and blocked shots (5th, 127).

During her final campaign on the Flats, Goodlett earned All-ACC Second Team and ACC All-Tournament First Team accolades as she helped the Jackets to 12 ACC wins and 26 overall wins, both program bests. The Yellow Jackets played in the ACC Championship Game for only the second time in school history and advanced to Tech’s first Sweet 16.

“We are so proud of Sasha and all she has meant to Georgia Tech and our women’s basketball program,” Joseph said. “To cap off her great career at Georgia Tech being selected as the No. 11 overall pick in the WNBA Draft is an amazing accomplishment for Sasha.

“We are very proud of the fact that we have had back-to-back first round WNBA Draft picks in Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett. Our program continues to reach new heights,” Joseph added.

Goodlett and fellow seniors LaQuananisha Adams, Mo Bennett, Chelsea Regins and Metra Walthour finished their careers as Georgia Tech’s winningest class with 95 career wins and a .704 career winning percentage, the first Jacket class to win 70 percent of all games. The five also won more ACC games, 37, than other previous Tech class.
