THE FLATS – Georgia Tech freshman Brittany Jackson was named ACC Rookie of the Week after helping the Yellow Jackets’ women’s basketball team to a 2-0 record.
Jackson is the first Yellow Jacket to earn ACC Rookie of the Week since Tyaunna Marshall did so five times in the 2010-11 season.
For the week, Jackson averaged 15.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, shot 45 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from 3-point range.
“Brittany Jackson deserves to be named ACC Rookie of the Week,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She had a great game against Marquette and has been a key player in all of our games this season. She is a tremendous talent that gives us another weapon on the perimeter.”
In Tech’s win over Kennesaw State, Jackson scored nine points to go with four rebounds and three assists in only 18 minutes. She was 3-of-4 against the Owls from 3-point range. Jackson had her best game of the season against Marquette when she finished with 21 points, five rebounds and five steals. Against the Golden Eagles, Jackson made 5-of-8 3-point attempts and helped Tech tie the single-game steals record of 27.
Georgia Tech will play Syracuse on Friday and UW-Milwaukee on Saturday in the San Juan Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Both games will start at 12 p.m. Eastern and can be heard on WREK 91.1 FM.
