THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team wraps up its regular season with a three-game series at Boston College this weekend. The Jackets and Eagles square off Saturday in a doubleheader and the series finale is set for Sunday. Action begins on both days at 1 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets are in sixth place in the league, and enter the final weekend of the regular season with a 22-29 overall record and a 7-10 mark in ACC play. The Eagles are in eighth place, and are 14-34on the season and 2-16 in league action.
Junior Ashley Thomas continues to lead Tech and the league with a .423 batting average. She is hitting .491 in conference games and that average has not fallen below .490 this season. Hope Rush leads the squad with 49 RBI and 16 home runs, two away from becoming the all-time career leader at Georgia Tech.
Tory Speer paces the Eagles with a .344 batting average and is just one of two Eagles batting above .300; the other is Megan Cooley (.340). Speer leads the team with 14 home runs, and Cooley owns a team-best 41 runs on 53 hits and is 27-for-30 in stolen bases.
Georgia Tech is 25-2 all-time against Boston College and the Jackets have won the last 12-straight games against the Eagles. Tech head coach Sharon Perkins is 18-2 against Boston College.
Up next, the Jackets head to the ACC Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. hosted by Florida State. Action begins May 9 and the championship game is set for 6 p.m. on May 11 at JoAnne Graf Field.
