Georgia Tech Women's Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards

July 19, 2012

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic Team and six Yellow Jackets earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2012 season with a 16-12 record, a trip to the program’s seventh NCAA Championship Round of 16 and a program-best 3.71 team GPA for the spring semester.

Seniors Lynn Blau, Caroline Lilley and Viet Ha Ngo, along with junior Elizabeth Kilborn, sophomore Muriel Wacker and freshman Jasmine Minor were each named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Ngo earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition each of her four years at Georgia Tech. It is the second selection for Blau, Lilley and Wacker.

Senior Jillian O’Neill became the second Yellow Jacket named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year earlier this spring. Blau, Lilley, Kilborn and Minor all joined O’Neill on the All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2011 and spring 2012).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
