Georgia Tech Game Notes

Washington Game Notes

Georgia Tech will play its final game before an eight day break for Christmas when it hosts the Washington Huskies in a Friday afternoon game to tip off at noon at McCamish Pavilion. The Yellow Jackets will be trying to level their record at 5-5 after downing Alcorn State in their last outing.

This will be the second all-time meeting between the Jackets and Huskies. The first came Dec. 23, 2010, when Tech traveled to Seattle for a homecoming game for then-senior Alex Montgomery. The Jackets earned a 60-27 victory led by 20 points and eight rebounds from Montgomery. Tyaunna Marshall added 14 points and seven boards for Tech.

Marshall and fellow junior Dawnn Maye led Tech in the Jackets’ win over Alcorn State. Marshall tied her career high of 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting and was named ACC Player of the Week. Maye recorded her third career double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.

The Huskies make the cross-country trip coming off a 1-1 weekend in which UW was topped, 54-46, by UC Santa Barbara and defeated Idaho, 62-48. Washington is led in scoring by sophomore Jazmine Davis’ 18.8 points per game. Classmate Aminah Williams adds 9.1 points and 11.8 rebounds an outing.

Junior Tyaunna Marshall is the only player to currently rank in the ACC’s top 10 in scoring, rebounding and steals in 2012-13.

Through games of Dec. 19, Marshall is second in scoring (17.9 ppg), tied for eighth in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and tied for 10th in steals (2.2 spg).

Georgia Tech will face 10 teams this season that it has played fewer than five times previously. They are Alcorn State (3), Florida International (2), Marquette (1), Northeastern (0), Purdue (1), Quinnipiac (0), Syracuse (0), Tennessee (4), Washington (1) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (0).

Junior Tyaunna Marshall earned her first ACC Player of the Week award of the season and the first of her career on Dec. 17 after her performance against Alcorn State.

Against the Lady Braves, Marshall tied her career high with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting and helped Tech to its best shooting game to date this season. She also added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

As a freshman in 2010-11, Marshall was named ACC Rookie of the Week five times.

Senior Sharena Taylor was one of 34 Georgia Tech student-athletes to earn their degree at the Dec. 15 Georgia Tech commencement ceremony at McCamish Pavilion.

Taylor is the first in her family to graduate from a four-year college and earned her degree in Science, Technology and Culture in only three and a half years. The Pontiac, Mich., native has played in 73 career games with 12 starts. Taylor has accepted a position with Teach For America in Atlanta.
