ATHENS, Ga. – A number of Georgia Tech swimmers wrapped up the Bulldog Last Chance Meet on Sunday in Athens, Georgia. Four Yellow Jackets set NCAA `B’ qualifying times, while a number of career best marks were set in the individual meet, highlighed by Chiara Ruiu‘s new school record in the 200 breast event.
Women’s Highlights
Ruiu set a new school record in the 200 breast event with her NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 2:12.45 in the time trials.
Fellow upperclassman Kira de Bruyn set NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times in both the 200 IM time trial (2:01.48) and the 100 fly (53.43). Her time in the 100 fly time trial is also a new career best time for the event.
Sophomore Iris Wang turned in an NCAA `B’ qualifying time of 49.51 in the 100 free prelims on Sunday morning, while fellow classmate Laura Branton registered an NCAA `B’ cut time of 1:58.31 in the 200 fly finals in the evening session.
Freshman Lindsay Wallace recorded a career-best time of 51.88 in the 100 free prelims and then topped that time by touching the wall in a time of 51.66 in the 100 free finals. She also posted a new career-best time of 24.23 in the 50 free time trials and a time of 1:51.76 in the 200 free time trials over the weekend.
Tech’s Lila Best also set a career best mark in the 100 free finals with a time of 52.00 and in the 200 free time trials event with a time of 1:51.50.
Megan Young finished in fifth-place in the 200 back finals with a time of 2:08.44, while Florina Ilie placed eighth in the 200 breast finals with her time of 2:18.48.
Jacket freshman Kelli Croft also competed on Sunday, touching the wall in a time of 17:19.11 in the 1650 free.
Men’s Highlights
For the men, four freshmen in Joonas Koski,Quentin Talley, Aidan Pastel and Austin Whalen set new career best times in their respective event on Sunday.
Koski posted a new career-best time of 1:48.10 in the 200 back finals, placing fifth, while Talley touched the wall in a time of 45.25 in the 100 free prelims before beating that mark with a time of 45.19 in the 100 free finals. Koski also recorded a new career-best time of 1:50.81 in the 200 IM time trials for the meet.
Pastel also set a new career best mark in the 100 free prelims with a time of 45.35, while Whalen’s career best mark of 46.05 also came in the 100 free prelims.
Senior Kevin Smith turned in a time of 2:05.16 in the 200 breast finals, while Manuel Barragan turned in a time of 1:50.46 in the 200 fly finals.
