CHAPEL HILL, NC (April 22) – The Georgia Tech softball team (25-28, 2-5) dropped an Atlantic Coast Conference game to host North Carolina (44-15, 5-2) on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.
In the bottom of the second, Tar Heel pinch runner Lauren Parker scored on desginated hitter Carrie Bates’ sacrifice fly to give North Carolina a 1-0 lead. Parker was running for sophomore catcher Natalie Anter, who had singled to right earlier in the inning.
North Carolina added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Anter singled to left-center then scored on sophomore Kelly Ramsey’s single to right-center.
The Jackets were led by leftfielder Heather Sumrow and right fielder Kori Jacobson who each had two hits on the afternoon. Tech stranded nine runners on afternoon, while Carolina stranded only five.
Jamie Smith took the loss for Tech and falls to 14-14 on the year while Radara McHugh earned the victory for the Tar Heels and improves to 22-5.
The Tar Heels and Yellow Jackets will face off again at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Finley Field. The game is the final regular-season conference matchup for both teams.
