The Georgia Tech (11-10) softball team fell to St. Mary’s college on Thursday by the score of 7-1.
The Gaels (11-10) broke the game open in the bottom of the second as they unloaded six runs. Jessica Hanaseth opened the inning with a walk, followed by a single to left field by Holly Ferreira. Gina Javier then smashed a double down the right field line to drive in two runs. The designated hitter Serena Navarez then followed by drawing a walk, while Jennifer Fawkes advanced the runners by singling to right field. The next batter, Jenn Price, notched a single to center field and drove in one run, while Trisha Dean then had a bases clearing double to drive in three runs for the Gaels.
The Yellow Jackets lone run came in the top of the fourth as second baseman Ellen Styer singled to center field and then stole second base to lead off the inning. Styer then advanced to third base on a wild pitch and was driven in by freshman Lindsay Wood who hit a double to right center.
Freshman Tiffany Goodman received the loss for Tech as she allowed seven runs on seven hits and three base on balls over the seven inning span. She falls to 6-5 on the year.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday as they continue their West Coast trip and compete in the National Invitational Tournament in San Jose, Calif. Georgia Tech will enter pool play against Wisconsin at 1 pm EST followed by San Jose State at 3 pm and UC Santa Barbara at 11pm.
