GREENSBORO, N.C. – Brigitte Ardossi scored a game-high 23 points to lead Georgia Tech to a 52-45 come-from-behind victory over Wake Forest Friday afternoon in the first quarterfinal game of the ACC Tournament.

A second-team All-ACC selection, Ardossi helped the fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets overcome a 16-point deficit and a first half in which they made just three field goals. With 1:05 remaining, Ardossi’s jumper gave Tech a 45-43 lead, its first since being up 4-2.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the fifth-seeded Demon Deacons 18-5 over the final 10:08 as they tied the school record set in 1978 with their 23rd win of the season.

Wake Forest raced out to a 25-9 lead behind Brooke Thomas’ eight first-half points. But Ardossi’s shooting and Wake’s 12 second-half turnovers doomed the Demon Deacons as they fell to 18-13 on the season.

It took Georgia Tech nearly 12 minutes to hit its first field goal, but behind Ardossi’s 10 first-half points the Yellow Jackets trailed by just eight at intermission. Ardossi scored six of Tech’s eight points in the final three and a half minutes of the half while the Jackets held Wake scoreless over that stretch.

Secily Ray led the Deacons with 11 points. Thomas added 10 and Brittany Waters nine for Wake Forest, which recorded its second season with at least 18 wins over the last 23 years.

Alex Montgomery scored nine points and Deja Foster contributed seven boards 10 rebounds for the Jackets, who will face the winner of the quarterfinal game between Duke and Maryland at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
