Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATS – Richy Werenski and Ollie Schniederjans have solid weekends on PGA Tour … Four Jackets play the weekend on the Web.com Tour … J.T. Griffin advances from local U.S. Open qualifying … this and more in the Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report.

Former Georgia Tech teammates Richy Werenski and Ollie Schniederjans were the only former Yellow Jackets of the seven competing in the strong field at last weekend’s Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C. Schniederjans tied for 28th, his best finish since tying for 16th at The Players, overcoming an opening 74 to finish 69-68-70 for a 3-under-par 281. Werenski tied for 38th, his best finish in 12 events in calendar year 2019.

Schniederjans, whose top finishes this year have been a tie for 16th at The Players, tie for 28th at Wells Fargo and tie for 33rd at Waste Management Phoenix Open, moved up to 155th in FedEx Cup points. Werenski, whose best finishes this season all occurred in the fall, stands 91st.

Schniederjans continues schedule this week at the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas, Texas, where Anders Albertson, Roberto Castro, Seth Reeves and Cameron Tringale try to bounce back from missed cuts at the Wells Fargo.

Web.com Tour:  Four Yellow Jackets made the cut at last weekend’s Nashville Golf Open. Two former Jackets without full status earned paychecks: J.T. Griffin tied for 38th in his third start this year, and Chris Petefish, who shot 63 in Monday qualifying to make the field, tied for 33rd. Vincent Whaley maintained his No. 13 position in the Web.com Tour points race by tying for 18th place, and Paul Haley II tied for 27th, his best finish since the opening week in the Bahamas. Griffin earned another start this week at the KC Golf Classic, joining Haley and Whaley.

U.S. Open qualifying: Three Georgia Tech players, one past, two present, have made it through local U.S. Open local qualifiers. J.T. Griffin tied for fourth place (67) at Marietta (Ga.) Country Club to advance, current sophomore Noah Norton was the medalist (67) at his qualifier in Chico, Calif., and Tyler Strafaci was co-medalist (66) at his qualifier in Plantation, Fla. Several current and former Jackets, including Vincent Whaley, will compete in a local qualifier Thursday at Whitewater Creek in Fayetteville, Ga.
