THE FLATS – Josh Okogie posted a career high in points, Thaddeus Young posted a monster double-double against the Eastern Conference leading Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, and Derrick Favors recorded a near double-double in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday … That and more in this edition of the Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.
Okogie scored 21 points on 7-11 shots from the field, including 4-7 from three point territory. He also provided five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. NBA writer Kyle Ratke wrote that Okogie “continues to look like an absolute steal” after the Timberwolves’ 118-91 win over the Suns on Wednesday night. He looks to continue his strong play as the Timberwolves face the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night at 10:30 p.m.
Young picked up the slack for all-star guard, Victor Oladipo, who left the game in the second quarter with a knee injury. The Indiana Pacers forward put up 23 points on 10-19 shooting in addition to 15 rebounds. His clutch floater with 10 seconds left in the game sealed the game for the Pacers, who move to 32-15 on the season. Young and the Pacers travel to Memphis to play the Grizzlies on Saturday night.
Favors finished the game against the Trail Blazers with 12 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Despite his play the Jazz were only able to beat the Trail Blazers as they lost, 109-104 on Monday night. Favors has averaged 10.9 ppg along with 7.1 rebounds each night to help the Jazz push for a higher playoff spot.
Iman Shumpert did not play in the Sacramento Kings loss to the Raptors on Tuesday night. He and the Kings look to bounce back against the Grizzlies tomorrow night.
CBSSports.com reported before Christmas that Marcus Georges-Hunt underwent knee surgery and would miss extended playing time for the Maine Red Claws in the G League, though there has been very little reported about it. Georges-Hunt had averaged 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 36 minutes per game in nine games for the Red Claws.
