THE FLATS – Marcus Georges-Hunt scores career-high 12 in 29 minutes … Derrick Favors records double-double in win over the Clippers … Jarrett Jack has improved Porzingis numbers greatly when on the floor … Iman Shumpert returns in brief stint after lengthy injury … Thaddeus Young scores in double figures in ninth-straight game … All of that and more can be found in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.
Derrick Favors continues to average almost a double-double for the Utah Jazz. Going 3-2 in their last five, Favors recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds in a win over the Clippers before falling two points shy of a second double-double in the three-point victory over the Pistons with 10 rebounds. Amid trade rumors, a recent trip to Atlanta provided a much-needed distraction for Favors: “It’s always great to come back to Atlanta. I love it. It’s just a relief from everything. Just being out of Utah, going through the season. Going through the trade rumors and stuff, it’s just a relief to come back to see family, see your friends, see your support system, to be back in Atlanta, which I love being in. It feels great.”
As the Minnesota Timberwolves have dropped three of their last five, in searching for answers, Marcus Georges-Hunt has emerged as a viable part of the rotation. In the 115-109 victory over Toronto, Georges-Hunt was given 29 minutes and took advantage of it, scoring a career-high 12 points alongside three rebounds and two assists. He’s logged 69 total minutes in the last three games for by far his best stretch of the season. If “he continues to play the way he did in Saturday’s stunning victory when his number is called, he could become a key contributor down the stretch.”
Fansided: “Marcus Georges-Hunt should receive consistent minutes for the Minnesota Timberwolves”
As the Knicks continue to look for answers, falling to Utah, Golden State and the Lakers last week, Jarrett Jack dished out 10 assists against Los Angeles while following that up with a 13-point performance against the Warriors on Tuesday. Where Jack has vastly helped the Knicks is in finding Kristaps Porzingis in his spots. “The difference between Porzingis playing with and without Jack is the 7’3″ phenom performing like an All-Star or looking like a player who’s out of his depth.”
returned in a short stretch after a knee injury that ultimately required arthroscopic surgery on Dec. 1. Shumpert played just six minutes and committed two personal fouls in the brief return.
Thaddeus Young led the Pacers to a 2-1 effort last week, scoring 10, 14 and 22 with a week-high of seven rebounds in their 94-86 victory over the Spurs. Young recently poured in 22 points against the Suns, defeating Phoenix by 15 while shooting an impressive clip of 76.9 percent from the floor. He’s scored in double digits in nine-straight games for Indiana, but has also come up with three steals in each of his last two games to make his real presence felt defensively. The Pacers will square off next against the Cleveland Cavaliers in an important Eastern Conference matchup Friday at 7:30 p.m.
