THE FLATS – Thaddeus Young continues to be Mr. Reliable as the Pacers end the Cavs’ 13-game win streak … Jarrett Jack records 19 points in one of the Knicks three wins last week … Derrick Favors and the Utah Jazz try to move on from four-straight losses … Marcus Georges-Hunt’s Wolves hold onto fourth in West … Iman Shumpert continues to recover from knee surgery … All of that and more can be found in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.
Derrick Favors and the Utah Jazz are in the midst of a four-game skid, with Favors being held to just one double-digit scoring effort and one double-digit rebounding effort in the streak. He recorded 14 points on Dec. 9 in the seven-point loss to Milwaukee and pulled down 10 rebounds against Chicago on Wednesday in the three-point loss. The two will try to snap the losing streak in a tough road trip to Boston on Friday night.
Marcus Georges-Hunt ’s last appearance for the Timberwolves came in the 120-102 victory over the New Orleans on Nov. 29. Going 3-2 over the last five games, Minnesota improved to a 16-12 overall record, currently ranking fourth in the Western Conference.
Jarrett Jack and the Knicks have won three of their last five, winning their previous two outings over the Lakers and the Hawks. Against Atlanta, Jack poured in 19 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds while he dished out 10 assists and grabbed six rebounds against Los Angeles. Continuing to be a veteran voice for the future of the Knicks, Jack has taken Frank Ntilikina under his wing, being a “relentless voice in [his] ear.”
Iman Shumpert continues to recover from a knee injury ultimately required arthroscopic surgery on Dec. 1. The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that he is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Shumpert has missed five of the previous six games before the decision was made.
The Indiana Pacers’ win streak may have ended at four, but not before Thaddeus Young nearly recorded a triple-double when he scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and created a season-high seven steals. Most impressively last week, Young and Co. snapped the Cavaliers’ 13-game win streak with a 106-102 victory. Young had 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the affair. Young also played the hero against Denver when he tipped in a basket with five seconds remaining to tie the game and force overtime where the Pacers prevailed. The hard-working Pacer has led the team to a fifth-place East ranking by being one of the most consistently reliable players in the league.
