THE FLATS — With less than a week of games left to play in the 2016-17 MLB regular season, Georgia Tech baseball has one #ProJacket with a spot secured in the playoffs, another one trying to hold on to a wildcard spot in the National League and a third #ProJacket with a team that has an outside chance of sneaking into the American League playoffs.
Matt Wieters and the Washington Nationals won the NL East Division a few weeks back and are getting healthy as the playoffs near. The veteran catcher is hitting .227 with 10 home runs, 20 doubles, 52 RBIs and 43 runs scored over 120 games this season. He has hit safely and each of his last four games and will look to help solidfy the bottom of the Nationals’ batting order as October baseball approaches.
Trying to help the Colorado Rockies hold on to the final wildcard spot in the NL, Charlie Blackmon‘s MVP season continues as he leads the NL in a number of offensive categories. Blackmon, who leads the MLB with 205 hits, is hitting .326 with 36 home runs, 14 triples, 35 doubles, 97 RBIs and 135 runs scored on the year.
Last center fielder to match @Chuck_Nazty‘s 134 runs, 204 hits & 375 total bases?
That would be Joe DiMaggio (’37).

In the American League, Blake Wood and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are not yet out of the wildcard race, but are have no room for error over the last five games. Since joining the Angels in late August, Wood has gone 1-0 in 14 appearances. He has posted an ERA of 5.14 and struck out 19 batters in 14.0 innings of work.
Fellow #ProJacket arms Buck Farmer and Deck McGuire are both looking to close the season out on a high note to prove to teams that they are MLB talent heading into next season, while infielder Derek Dietrich will attempt to finish the season out strong with the Miami Marlins.
