Georgia Tech #ProJackets Baseball Report

THE FLATS — As the MLB regular season came to a close, #ProJacket Charlie Blackmon turned on the jets to head into October and the 2018 postseason.

Blackmon started last week by having his career-best 17-game hit streak snapped before bouncing back on Sunday, hitting the first cycle of his career in the 12-0 victory over the Washington Nationals. The cycle also was the first to happen in Game 162 in Major League history, as he continues to show his offensive leadership.

Blackmon then recorded the first run of the 2018 MLB postseason en route to a 2-1 Wild Card victory over the Chicago Cubs. He hit 1-for-3 for the game with one walk.

He’ll now move on to the NLDS where he and the Colorado Rockies will take on the Milwaukee Brewers.

With a start in Game 1 on Thursday night, Blackmon becomes the ninth Yellow Jacket in the Danny Hall era to play in the MLB postseason.

Rookie Daniel Palka impressed in his final season of his first professional year, much like he has all 2018. Palka finished the three-game series against the Minnesota Twins with four hits, two runs, an RBI and two walks.

Palka’s rookie season was one for the ages as he finished 2018 with 100 hits, 67 RBI and 27 home runs, hitting .240 overall.

White Sox: Daniel Palka should get more national attention

Derek Dietrich finished a fine 2018 campaign with the Marlins, recording career-high career-high numbers in hitting (132), RBI (45), doubles (26) and home runs (16).

With a career-high 66 appearances, Detroit Tigers right-hander Buck Farmer used September to work his ERA to a career-best 4.15 over his 69.1 innings of work. Farmer struck out 57 batters this year and held opponents to an average of .255.

In Matt Wieter’s second season with the Nationals, the catcher caught 17 would-be base stealers, while collecting 56 hits, eight doubles and eight homers.

Below is a complete list of Tech #ProJackets playing professionally this season.
