David North posted wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles to lead the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team to a 7-0 win over Maryland Friday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 11-7, 3-4 ACC while the Terrapins drop to 8-10, 0-9 ACC.
Tech opened the match by winning all three doubles matches and claiming a 1-0 lead. North paired with Marko Rajevac at No. 1 to defeat Ian Bliss and Troy Demers, 9-8 (4). At No. 2 doubles, Jose Muguruza and Sukhwa Young teamed to beat David Reichsfeld and Scott Fink, 8-3 while at No. 3 doubles Zachary Rath and Scott Blackmon won over Michael Coleman and Josh Brauser, 8-5.
After doubles play, Tech carried over its momentum, winning at each singles line in straight sets. No. 21 Muguruza won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5 while North won at No. 2 over Bliss, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Rajevac swept Fink, 6-3, 6-0 and Rath won at No. 4 over Brauser, 6-4, 6-0. In the final two matches, Jordan Delass won over Reichsfeld at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4 while George Gvelesani defeated Coleman, 6-3, 6-3.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Sunday when they face No. 21 Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla, at 1 p.m.
