Georgia Tech, ranked 15th and coming off consecutive dominating performances against Notre Dame and Samford, kicks off ACC play Saturday night against No. 21/19 Boston College at Bobby Dodd Stadium (8:00 p.m./ESPN2).
The Yellow Jackets, 2-0, outscored Samford and Notre Dame by a combined 102-17. Tech ran past Samford, 69-14, last Saturday in its home opener after beating Notre Dame, 33-3, in the season opener Sept. 1 in South Bend.
Boston College, 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, will play its third straight conference game to open the season.  After beating Wake Forest in the season opener, the Eagles whipped visiting NC State, 37-17, last Saturday.
Saturday’s game, which features two of the four remaining unbeaten teams in the ACC, will be nationally-televised by ESPN2.
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series with Boston College, 4-1, but Saturday’s game will mark the first-ever ACC meeting between the two schools.  The last time the Yellow Jackets and Eagles met — a 41-31 BC victory in Atlanta in the 1998 season opener — Boston College was still a member of the Big East Conference (more series information on page three).

Through Two Games, Tech’s Numbers Are Staggering
It may be just two weeks into the season, but it’s difficult to ignore the numbers put up by Georgia Tech:
– Tech has scored more points (102) through two games than any Yellow Jacket team since 1936 when opening the season with a 55-0 win vs. Presbyterian and a 58-0 win vs. Sewanee.
– The Yellow Jackets have outscored opponents by a combined 85 points – its largest margin through two games since 1936.
– Tech opponents have scored 17 points combined, the fewest by Jacket opponents since 2002.
– The Jackets are out-rushing opponents by an average of 286 yards per game (324.0 to 38.0).
– Georgia Tech is averaging 439 yards of total offense per game, while limiting opponents to 181 yards per contest.
– Tech has outscored its opponents 61-0 in the first half.

Georgia Tech-Boston College Game A Statistical Slugfest
Georgia Tech and Boston College, both 2-0, are among the ACC leaders in almost every statistical category, which means something must give on Saturday:
– Georgia Tech (51.0 ppg) and Boston College (37.5 ppg) rank 1-2 in the ACC in scoring and in total offense, and combine to average more than 88 points per game.
– While BC averages nearly 38 points per contest, the Yellow Jacket defense is allowing just 8.5 points per game, which ranks first in the ACC and 11th nationally in scoring defense.
– The Yellow Jackets lead the ACC and rank fourth nationally in rushing offense (342 ypg). Conversely, the Eagles are allowing just 29 yards rushing per game and rank fourth nationally in rushing defense.
– BC (+3.5) and Georgia Tech (+2.5) rank 1-2 in the ACC in turnover margin. The Eagles, who lead the nation in interceptions, rank third nationally in turnover margin. The Jackets, who have yet to commit a turnover, rank seventh.

Georgia Tech-Boston College Series History
– Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 4-1.
– Saturday’s meeting will be the first ACC meeting between the two teams. The Yellow Jackets and Eagles have not met since 1998 when BC was a member of the Big East Conference.
– Boston College won the most recent meeting. The Eagles beat the Yellow Jackets 41-31 in Atlanta on Sept, 5, 1998. Georgia Tech, following that season-opening loss, went on to post a 10-2 record under coach George O’Leary.
– Tech’s last win over Boston College was a 42-14 victory in Chestnut Hill on Oct. 4, 1997.
– Georgia Tech is 2-1 vs. Boston College in Atlanta and 2-0 against the Eagles on the road.
– The teams first met on the gridiron in 1972.
– Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey has never previously coached against Boston College. Eagle head coach Jeff Jagodzinski is in his first year as a head coach.

Yellow Jacket-Eagle Connections
– Georgia Tech has no players on its roster from Massachusetts and Boston College has no players from Georgia.
– Boston College head coach Jeff Jagodzinski has ties to Atlanta. He was an assistant coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2004 and 2005.
– Both Jagodzinski and Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey came to their respective schools from the NFL.
– In 1999, Gailey was head coach of Dallas when the Cowboys beat Green Bay, 27-13. Jagodzinski was a Packers’ assistant coach at the time.
– Both defensive coordinators — Tech’s Jon Tenuta and BC’s Frank Spaziani — were on the same coaching staff at Virginia in 1982. Spaziani coached the Cavalier defensive backs while Tenuta was serving as a graduate assistant.
