Georgia Tech Falls To No. 20 North Carolina, 71-62

ATLANTA (AP) – Coretta Brown had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 20 North Carolina to a 71-62 victory Sunday over Georgia Tech.

Candace Sutton and Kenya McBee scored 10 points each as North Carolina (21-6, 10-4 ACC) handed Georgia Tech its fourth loss in five games.

Regina Tate scored 18 for Georgia Tech (14-11, 7-8), and Sonja Mallory and Milli Martinez had 14 apiece.

North Carolina led by as many as 14 in the first half. The biggest lead came on Carrie Davis’ baseline basket with 2:28 left, but Georgia Tech got within 37-30 at halftime after closing with a 9-2 run.

The Tar Heels scored the first seven points of the second half, to push the lead to 44-30. North Carolina outscored Tech 20-10 over the first eight minutes to grab a 57-40 cushion.

North Carolina scored just two points over the next eight minutes as the Yellow Jackets trimmed the lead to 59-51.

Georgia Tech pulled within five on Megan Isom’s 3-pointer with 50.5 seconds left, but two free throws each by McBee and Nikki Teasley put the game away.
