THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team fell to Indiana, 10-2, in the final game of the Georgia Tech Classic at Mewborn Field Sunday. The Jackets fall to 8-2 overall and the Hoosiers improved to 7-3.

Alysha Rudnik went 1-for-3 with a home run and Katie Johnsky was 2-for-3 with one run, and RBI and a home run.

The Hoosiers wasted no time getting on the board as leadoff batter Brianna Meyer doubled, was hit around to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.

The Jackets couldn’t string anything together over the next five innings to contest Indiana’s 1-0 lead and struck out a season high 10 times.

Indiana broke the game open with five runs on two hits in the sixth inning and added another four runs on four hits in the seventh.

Georgia Tech scored its only runs thanks to two solo home runs off the bats of Rudnik in the sixth inning and Johnsky in the seventh. The Jackets had two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but the next two batters flied out and grounded out to end the game.

In total, the Jackets left six runners on base compared to Indiana’s 11.

Hope Rush (4-2) took the loss and pitched all seven innings with 10 runs on 10 hits and seven walks. Meaghan Murphy (4-2) earned the win with two runs on eight hits, no walks and 10 strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

The Jackets are back in action Wednesday when they host Mercer at 6 p.m.
