Georgia Tech will be trying for its sixth win in the last seven games against North Carolina when the Tar Heels come to McCamish Pavilion for an 11:30 a.m. game Sunday which can be seen on ESPNU and heard on WREK 91.1 FM.
Sunday’s contest will be Georgia Tech’s Play4Kay game, the annual initiative between the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. The first 500 fans at Sunday’s game will receive a free pink shaker. The Jackets will also wear special pink uniforms and shoes.
In the first meeting this year at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels claimed a 79-58 win over the Jackets. Brittany Jackson tallied 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Tyaunna Marshall tossed in 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and added three assists and two steals.
In Tech’s last game, Marshall passed Fallon Stokes and Sasha Goodlett to climb into 10th on the Georgia Tech career scoring list with 1,365 points. Sydney Wallace knocked down a pair of threes against Virginia Tech to move into a tie with Christie Finney for 10th all-time in career threes in the Gold and White.
THRILLER IN ATLANTA
The last time the Jackets and Heels squared off in Atlanta, fans were treated to a thrilling 71-70 Georgia Tech win.
In both teams’ 2011 ACC opener, UNC came to the Flats ranked No. 8. After a back-and-forth opening 34 minutes, UNC built a seven point lead with 1:31 to play on two Jessica Breland free throws. With 1:06 to play, Tech called timeout and the Jackets strung together an 8-0 run for the win.

WELL KNOWN FOE
Sunday’s game against North Carolina will make the Tar Heels Tech’s most-often played opponent and UNC will be the first team Georgia Tech has played 70 times.
Tech’s most played opponents are North Carolina (69), Clemson (69), Virginia (66), Maryland (65), Duke (64), NC State (63), Wake Forest (60), Florida State (41), Georgia (35) and Georgia State (35).

Junior Tyaunna Marshall is the only player in the ACC to rank in the league’s top 10 in scoring (3rd, 16.8 ppg), rebounding (6th, 8.5 rpg) and steals (6th, 2.3 spg).
BIG GAME TY
In Georgia Tech’s eight games against ranked opponents this year, junior Tyaunna Marshall has stepped up.
Marshall is averaging 18.5 points while shooting 44 percent from the field against AP ranked foes. She has nearly twice as many points (148) as the next Jacket. She has scored in double digits against every ranked opponent this year, including 26 at No. 14 Purdue, 26 at No. 22 Florida State and 23 at No. 4 Duke. She
Marshall also leads Tech in rebounds with 7.4 in those games. Her 18 steals are tied for team best and her 23 assists against ranked opponents are second on the Tech roster.
GT TOP 10 SCORERS
Marshall broke into the Georgia Tech career scoring top 10 with 15 points against Virginia Tech.
The junior enters the North Carolina game with 1,365 career points and in 10th all-time at Tech. Janie Mitchell and Kate Brandt are tied for eighth all-time with 1,422 points all-time. The full list of Georgia Tech career scoring leaders can be found on page 11.
Marshall began the season with 978 points and outside of the top 25 Yellow Jacket scorers.
