ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s cross country team will begin the season this Saturday morning at the Mercer Cross Country Meet in Atlanta. The men’s 5K race will start at 9 a.m. on the Mercer-Atlanta course while the women’s 4K race will follow at 9:30 a.m. at the same location.
Head Coach Alan Drosky is excited about this upcoming season and is ready for ACC competition. “We have a great young group and we’ve had some great practices so far where our kids have run hard. I’m looking for us to have a strong year and compete for a spot in the top half of the ACC.”
Leading the way for the men’s team will be a strong and experienced group in seniors Rob Kuhn and Adam Jones, while fellow seniors Clark Rivers and David Herren will also provide great depth. Kuhn led the Jackets at last year’s Georgia State Invite by finishing 10th overall with a time 26:48 in the 8K. Two other members of the team who are expected to compete for a top spot among Tech runners are junior Chris Clarke and sophomore Nazar Trilisky. Clarke was the top Tech performer at the Auburn Invitational last year while Trilisky enjoyed a great freshman campaign.
The women will feature a trio of juniors this year in Kirby Cross, Ann Armsby, and Mary Chind. Cross returns from injury and will look to build on her successful freshman season where she tallied two top-10 finishes overall at the Clemson Invite and Wake Forest Invite. Chind was Tech’s top finisher in numerous races last year, including the ACC Championships and the NCAA South Region Championships, while Armsby led the Jackets at the Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Others who will look to contribute are junior Jenny Sims and sophomores Elena Linn and Nisha Kurian.
Competing in their first race for Tech will be 15 freshmen including Katina Zuganelis and Ashley Keck on the women’s side and Alex Erickson and Will Bonn for the men.
