THE FLATS – Georgia Tech and adidas revealed the Yellow Jackets’ 2018 football uniforms on Friday evening. The uniforms are the first to be unveiled as part of Georgia Tech’s new partnership with adidas, which officially began on July 1.
The Yellow Jackets’ new adidas uniforms feature two different white jerseys – a primary home jersey and a Whiteout jersey.
The primary home jersey is a modern take on Georgia Tech’s traditional uniform. It features Tech Gold numerals outlined in navy blue, gold and navy blue stripes on the sleeves, navy blue stripes on either side of the collar and a gold interlocking GT logo above the front numerals.
The Whiteout jersey is a bold new look for a bold tradition on The Flats. Its style mirrors the primary home jersey but with navy blue numerals, reversed navy blue and gold sleeve stripes and gold stripes on either side of the collar. It will be worn for the Yellow Jackets’ Nov. 10 Whiteout game versus Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division rival Miami (Fla.) and road games.
The uniforms can be matched with two different helmets (Tech Gold and white) and two different sets of pants (also Tech Gold and white). The Tech Gold pants have two navy blue stripes on the side of each leg, while the white pants have a Tech Gold stripe and a navy blue stripe on each leg. The Yellow Jackets’ new white helmet features detailed specs of Tech Gold with a sharp, bold stripe centered along the top.
The white helmets, white jerseys and white pants will be paired for the Whiteout contest against Miami.
Other design features of the new adidas uniforms include:
- Stinger Stripes: The stripes on the jerseys’ sleeves and collars pay homage to the traditional Georgia Tech stripes while accentuating a modern stinger;
- Swarm Pattern: The “Swarm Pattern” inside the numbers is a unique creation by adidas for Georgia Tech – representing the pattern found on the body of a yellow jacket.
The uniforms are part of adidas’ new Primeknit A1 Football line. Primeknit A1 Football uniforms are at the forefront of design and innovation, providing the perfect blend of style and technology for elite performance. They feature:
- a new body-mapping jersey design features all-new ribbed knit pattern on the chest and shoulder pads to produce a refined fit;
- knit engineered mesh channels feature Climacool technology to provide enhanced breathability and cooling zones;
- a new innovative chevron pattern on the chest of the jersey features silicon grip patterns on the shoulders to lock pads in place.
The uniforms were revealed in public for the first time at Friday night’s Georgia Tech/adidas launch party at Ventanas in downtown Atlanta. At the event, the uniforms were unveiled by being modeled by former Tech football letterwinner, first-team all-ACC defensive lineman and current WWE star Roman Reigns.
The Yellow Jackets will wear the uniforms for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 1 when they open the 2018 season at home versus Alcorn State.
